Limau Rise Sreet Party & Dialogue Session Oct 2013

The Limau Rise Street Party and Dialogue Session took place on a very warm Saturday afternoon. LENC members turned up early to set up the event venue. We changed the seat arrangement to a more engaging U layout instead of the traditional "classroom" layout. A unique fruity vege basket was also prepared by the Gardening club.

Upon arriving, Dr Maliki was interviewed by a Media team while the neighbors streamed into the tentage.

Before the Dialogue session started, LENC members and Dr Maliki were seen sharing the happenings around the Limau Estate with the neighbors.

Dialogue session kicked off with Dr Maliki presenting the LENC exclusive Fruity Vege arrangement to Florence who kindly offered her home as the source to tap electricity for the event.

The Dialogue session with the neighbors was a very lively and participative one. Topics such as parking woes, parking code of conduct, EUP (Estate Upgrading Program) and anticipated traffic issues after condominiums completion were discussed. Dr Maliki also took the opportunity to share some healthcare programs rolled out by the government.

Overall, the event went very well with lots of positive feedback from the neighbors. It is yet another successful event organized by LENC and much credits go to the event lead, Douglas! WELL DONE!

Spotlight on Siglap's''Kepala' Programme in Lian He Zao Bao

Siglap's very own 'Kepala' Programme was featured in Lian He Zao Bao on Wednesday, 18 September 2013. The article shed light on how the Grassroots Leaders (GRL) play an active role in promoting the 'Kampong Spirit as 'Kepalas', a role similar to that of a Kampong Chief. Our Grassroot Advisor, Dr Maliki, who introduced the programme in Siglap, also spoke on how the programme can assist residents in a more holistic way, especially those in need. LENC is also happy to see our very own GRL. Clara, featured in the photograph in the article. Hope you will enjoy reading the article as much as we did. Click here for the English translation.

Kew Walk & Kew Heights Street Party and Dialogue Aug 2013

It was a hot sunny Saturday afternoon.  With balloons flying, fans swirling and the background music of Kenny G, neighbours from Kew Walk & Kew Heights held their 1st Street Party cum Dialogue session with our grassroots adviser Dr. Maliki.

Before the Dialogue started, there was a gift presentation by Dr. Maliki to our neighbour Jimmy Yong for allowing us to tap his electricity to drive the ceiling fans used at the party.  The neighbours held a friendly & meaningful dialogue session with Dr Maliki.  They hobnobbed, mingled, and enjoyed themselves over the Pizza, Tuna Sandwiches and other finger food.

Local issues such as car parking & dog poo problems were brought up by residents.  A task force comprising  volunteered residents   were set up to look further into the matter.  National issues such as education system were also aired by residents and discussed.  One neighbour put it simply: “I have been staying here for the past 15 years; this is the first time I had a dialogue session with the MP.  It is truly wonderful."  The neighbours were won over by Dr. Maliki' sincerity and down-to-earth demeanour.

The meeting ended around 7pm  on a high note with Dr. Maliki thanking the organizers and all the Grassroots Leaders from Limau Estate for making this event a success and a memorable one.

Kew Ave Street Party & Dialogue Session Aug 2013

The Street Party & Dialogue Session is held around the playground at Kew Ave. Kalthum, Lee Ching and Justine are the organizers with a great support from the LENC members.

The turnout of the neighbours is awesome. They are well engaged by Dr Maliki and the LENC members. We also take this opportunity to update the neighbours on the happenings around the neighbourhood.

The dialogue session with Dr Maliki is a casual but fruitful one. Dr Maliki shared plans on the estate and also discussed many topics like parking woes, pigeons issue, MRT congestion, Bedok Rise Road expansion etc with the neighbours. Neighbours provided many constructive suggestions as well.

Although the session over run, neighbours not only go home with many of their questions/concerns addressed, they also get to know their neighbours better and made new friends. Well done!

Siglap 48th National Day Dinner - Many Families One Neighbourhood

This year's National Day dinner was held at the Amphitheater in front of Blk 46. As always, LENC and our neighborus turned out in forces to support the event.

There was a pre-dinner contest that required guests from each table to come up with a drawing or words for Singapore.

Dr Maliki was greeted with loud cheers and whistles from the crowd! He then kicked off the dinner with a speech in 5 languages (English, Mandarin, Malay, Tamil and Hokkien).

Kalthum did us proud by winning the HDB's Good Neighbour Award 2013! Great Job my friend!

Dr Maliki then took the stage performing a series of songs and dances to raise funds.

The night ended in a HIGH with a mass sing-a-long of a number of National Songs. Overall, it was an evening of great food, games and entertainment. But, nothing beats bringing the many families together for a great neighbourhood spirit!
