Buying More Compost!!
It seems like it is never enough; compost , that is! So on the 12 September, the Gardening Club ordered the equivalent of 1500 Kg or 150 bags of the stuff for re-sale to residents. Residents were waiting at two locations for the stuff to be unloaded. They were then committed to some hard work, shoveling the material into bags. All in all, it was a fun morning, a little tiring but satisfying.

Pearl grass
Hello members of LENC gardening club. Prince's nursery is located at Upper Bukit Timah road. To go to their website, click on the title "Pearl grass" above.
This is where some members have bought their Pearl grass. They can be bought at $2.50per square foot. Better to call them first and inform them how much you want so as to give them time to cut the grass in sq. ft block.
Delivery charge is $30 so best to drive over to pick up yourself. Road leading to carpark is just after the Indian temple. Do bring along newspapers to cover your car boot although they do provide canvas to carry the grass.
HOWEVER if any member has any other "lobang" do let all members know.

Chek Jawa trip

Chek Jawa - Sunday 28 Jun 09
It was a beautiful and sunny Sunday morning when 30 residents gathered at Siglap CC for their trip to Chek Jawa.
After a bus ride, boat ferry and short van shuttle; we arrived at the Chek Jawa information kiosk where we were met by 3 guides from NParks. From there we were split into 3 groups of 10 and each group was guided by one of the knowledgeable guides From flora to fauna and all creatures on land as well as in the sea; participants were enthralled. The highlight of the trip was being able to go down to sandbank for a closer look at the various forms of sea creatures like sea-cucumber, starfish, sea-shells, crabs etc etc.

It was a very educational and well organized trip; thanks to Jake Tan and Emann.

Pictures show participants at the sandbank, old man selling durian and a Tongkat Ali tree.

The orchids in full bloom have attracted much attention and residents have noticed drivers slowing down to admire the flowers. Some neighbours have also walked by to take a closer look.
In fact, the beauty of the blooms has also convinced 2 more residents to join in the Orchid project.

Collecting Compost At Hoy Fatt Road
The soil condition at our Community Garden at Jalan Limau Nipis can be improved, to say the least! The ground is hard, and waterlocked and plants are not growing as well as they should.
So it was a great opportunity to purchase compost cheaply when another Gardening Group was ordering the stuff in bulk and we pooled in our order.
Residents went down to Hoy Fatt Road and helped shovel the compost into bags and then carted them back in a rented lorry to the community garden and to other residents who have placed orders with us. It was a fun way to spend the morning!
