Siglap Tree Planting Day and Launch of Limau Estate Community Lime Garden

Dear Residents,

The Siglap Tree Planting Day is here again!

Do you know that there is a tree planting season in Singapore? It all started when Mr Lee Kuan Yew first envisioned Singapore as a Garden City of the tropics and as a commitment to this cause, he has planted a tree every year since he launched the campaign in 1963. Former PM Mr Goh Chok Tong and PM Mr Lee Hsien Loong has carried on this tradition.

The first Tree Planting Day started in 1971 and is held every November as part of the Clean and Green Singapore (CGS) campaign.

In our Siglap event, to be held on the 6 November 2010 ( Saturday) at 8 am at Jalan Limau Kasturi, Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, Speaker of Parliament and MP for East Coast GRC (Siglap) will be planting four Salam trees. He will then proceed to Jalan Limau Manis playground to launch the new Community Lime Garden started by the Limau Estate Gardening Club members. Limau Nipis, Limau Kasturi, Limau Bali and limau Purut are the current species planted

See you there!!
